I came here from a video about why the Sherman beat the Panzer III. German tanks were very good. But, they never had parts enough for them and some of them were pains to work on. The Sherman just worked. War machines that work can mean the difference between victory and annihilation.

I will note the AC-10 can use ammunition the LB-X10 can't, and you can risk rapid fire with slightly greater risk of jamming compared to an Ultra. That said, I prefer the LB as well. As to the Gauntlet-A, I am ever reminded that anyone that can source or build clan-spec ER-Medium Lasers should scrap the Light PPC as soon as possible. The Light PPC is just underwhelming, only beating the IS ER-ML by 1 hex per range bracket for triple the tonnage and double the crits. The clan model beats its range and damage for the same heat, and is still only 1 ton, 1 crit.

For MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - there’s two mods that will make it worth while to keep the travel cut scene. One is a replacement model Leopard to Union Dropship - with working internals and mech at doors. It also fixes the fixed point when you spawn back into the dropship, it puts you into the command center and has elevator doors that instant travel you between command center and mechbay. It can also spawn upon pickup area and defend itself with LRMs. The mod is dropship/leopard rearmed - it gives the leopard extra weapons. The one I use is the pirate version as it gives the justifiable weapon load out - adds 4 LLs, 2-3 AC, 4 PPC, 2 LRMs. It’s compatible with the Union model replacer for the Leopard. I put god mode on myself near the dropship as enemies continued to spawn in. The dropship floored over 65+ enemies from VTOLs, tanks, mechs (light assault) over a time period of 27 minutes. Add Orbital drops to the game and you can call in more mechs, tanks, vtols, and varying amounts of mech squads via the artillery mod replacer. Again justified cause you own an Orbital Union dropship

My favourite MechWarrior memory is taking down a shiny new Dire Wolf in a masc and LB-X equipped Bushy. Hilly terrain, circling around my prey, dissecting limbs and RTBing after leaving a smoking junk-heap behind.

The X1 Bushwacker in my mind ticks all of the boxes for an Inner Sphere 3050's design. Unfortunately that also includes the fragility of an XL engine. It's definitely a versatile mech, but you're absolutely right in your assessment: if it's trying to beat Clan mechs at their own game, it'll lose more often than not. I don't have any experience with the Gauntlet, but after seeing the breakdown I cant say I'll go out of my way to field one. This was a great video as always Red! Cheers 😊

...Never was fond of this design until I tried a refit: replacing the AC/10 & ammo with a Large Pulse Laser (giving better anti-infantry capability, & letting it fire on the move), & upgrading the LRM-5 racks to -10 racks; Later replaced the MGs & ammo with a Flamer & extra LRM ammo. Despite the increased heat build up--especially with an Alpha strike--this armament gave me good results for the time I used it.

The il-Khan era really brought some excellent designs to the tabletop. The X4 is the perfect Inner Sphere tech stick to beat anything you don't like into the dirt.

Still my favorite mech because of mechwarrior 3. Once you ripped out the machine guns and replaced them with anything else it got real dangerous real quick.

Ever since i saw the bushwacker on the cover of TRO 3058, i have always liked this mech. It's a good general purpose mech, although if in a campaign i will often make the obvious LBX swap

1:35:54 Engine design is a good IRL example of this. Every so often, someone will invent a new way to convert burning fuel into mechanical power and people will say it's going to render the standard 4-stroke Otto-cycle piston engine obsolete. But every time, the years of refinement and evolution beat out the novel designs.
